Lip Flip

Lip flip has increased in popularity recently and seen as a more affordable and subtle alternative to lip fillers, but we have been performing lip flips for many years with great results. This treatment, more commonly performed on the upper lip, is specifically designed to enhance the appearance of the lips without adding volume, providing a natural-looking lift that gives the illusion of fuller, more defined lips. This is a quick, non-invasive procedure with zero downtime, and very low associated risks when administered by an experienced medical professional. For successful lip flip results, Nurse Julie’s expertise and steady hands make all the difference.

What is a lip flip?

Lip flip is a cosmetic treatment in which we administer two small neuromodulator injections into the left and right tip of the cupid’s bow, allowing it to relax which consequently gently lifts your top lip and “flips” it upwards giving the impression of more volume. Lip flip patients are often treated similarly to a “gummy-smile” patient, whose upper lip curls inwards or disappears when smiling.

Lip filler vs lip flip

They may sound similar, but lip flips and lip fillers are completely different procedures. While lip flips use a neuromodulator injected into the lip muscle to relax it, lip fillers involve injections of hyaluronic acid dermal filler to add volume. When hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into the lips, they immediately work to attract water, giving a fuller appearance to both upper and bottom lips.

Who is a good candidate for lip flip?

Patients who have a thinner upper lip or who feel that their upper lip recedes when smiling or speaking are good candidates for lip flip. Patients who expose excess gums when smiling can also benefit from this treatment. A careful assessment of the patient’s expectations will determine if a lip flip alone is enough or if dermal fillers are required to achieve their specific goals.

Is lip flip a painful procedure?

You’ll be pleased to know that the injections around your lips will be so small, you may feel only a pinch or nothing at all. The injections are quick and well-tolerated, with only slight swelling or bruising possible afterwards.

When can I expect to see results?

While your lip will not appear fuller straight right after a lip flip, you’ll be able to see the results in just a few days. It can take 1-2 weeks for the neuromodulator to relax the targeted muscle, although most patients will begin to notice a difference earlier.

How long will the results last?

Similar to anti-wrinkle injections, a lip flip lasts for 3-4 months in most patients.

Can a lip flip be combined with other treatments?

Yes, a lip flip can be combined with other cosmetic treatments, such as lip fillers, for more comprehensive lip enhancement. Nurse Julie can recommend the best approach based on your aesthetic goals.
