Jaw / Facial Slimming (Masseter Reduction)

The masseter is one of the main muscles responsible for the opening and closing of the jaw, enabling us to bite and chew food. It’s located on each side of the face, extending from the cheekbone down to the jawline. Overactivity of the masseter muscle can lead to conditions like teeth grinding or bruxism, causing tooth damage, jaw pain and headaches.

Masseter injections have gained popularity in recent years primarily because of their ability to relieve bruxism, however, this treatment also has unexpected cosmetic benefits. Along with its therapeutic benefits, the procedure can also enhance the overall appearance of the lower face and create a more defined and slim facial structure.  When neuromodulator injections are administered into the masseter muscle, they will temporarily block nerve signals to the muscle causing it to relax and shrink, changing the shape of an overly square jaw into a slimmer V-shape. Many patients are seeking both benefits because they have an enlargement of the masseter muscles from grinding their teeth.

Who is a good candidate for Masseter Injections?
Good candidates include patients who suffer from bruxism or jaw clenching, have enlarged masseter muscles or desire a slimmer jawline. A consultation with Nurse Julie is essential to determine suitability.

How long does the procedure take?
This is a quick procedure that takes about 15-30 minutes. It involves a series of tiny injections into the masseter muscles.

Is the procedure painful?
Most patients won’t experience discomfort as a topical anaesthetic is applied before the injections.

What is the recovery time?
There is minimal to no downtime associated with Masseter Injections. Some patients may experience slight swelling or bruising at the injection sites, which usually resolves within a few days.

How often will I need to repeat the treatment?
To maintain results, treatments are generally needed every 3 to 6 months. Over time, the frequency of treatments may decrease as the muscles become less prominent with repeated treatment.
