When dermal fillers are injected into the lips they gently expand the soft tissue and naturally integrate into the skin and the deeper underlying tissues. This adds volume to the lips and attracts moisture into the tissues.

What are the other benefits of lip augmentation?

Hyaluronic acid fillers for lip augmentation can help to smooth and improve hydration of the lips as well as increase the colour of the lip’s “pinkness”.

Are dermal fillers for lip augmentation permanent?

No, Nurse Julie uses non-permanent fillers that last up 6 months in the lips. Some people can be good retainers for this product so it can sometimes last longer for them.

What happens during the lip augmentation procedure?

Nurse Julie will apply numbing cream to the lips which will take effect after 10-20 minutes. The dermal filler is in a syringe with a fine needle on the end. Nurse Julie will inject small amounts into the lips around the vermillion boarder.

How much hyaluronic acid filler does Nurse Julie use for the lips?

It really does depend on the look you want and the current size and shape of your lips. The syringe amount starts from 0.5ml – which is a small amount. Nurse Julie will go through all of this with you at the consultation.

What happens after the lip augmentation treatment?

After lip enhancement, your lips may be a little bit swollen but this typically reduces within a day.

How long will I be numb for after having lip augmentation treatment?

About 1 hour.

I would like to have my lips augmented before a big event, how long before is the best time to have treatment?

It is best to plan ahead before a special date or event so the best thing to do would be to discuss this with Nurse Julie before hand.

If I suffer from cold sores can I still have dermal fillers in my lips?

If you have a history of cold sores there is a risk of a cold sore after lip augmentation treatment. It is due to the insertion of the needle into the skin that may cause the virus to be activated. This may cause a first outbreak of a cold sore or another eruption of a previous cold sore. Before your treatment, Nurse Julie advises to take anti-viral medication.
