CROW'S FEET / SMILE LINES

Whilst smile lines are a totally natural part of the aging process, they can add years to your face depending on the severity. Some lines can add character to one’s face, so it is very much a personal choice whether to have treatment or not. When we are young, the skin has more elasticity, so it bounces right back – as we get older, our skin doesn’t bounce back as easily and dynamic wrinkles (that form as a result of muscle motion) tend to stay and can end up being static lines (lines which remain on the skin at rest).

Why have I got smile lines?

We get smile lines from a loss of skin elasticity and collagen that occurs with ageing. Smile lines are wrinkles etched in the corner of the eye that Nurse Julie often refers to as a “fan” because they are the fine lines that fan out from the corners of the eyes. Depending on how long or deep the ridges and lines present in your “eye fan” will determine the outcome of your aesthetic treatment. Unlike wrinkles or expression lines on other areas of the face, smile lines can actually appear to look deeper or more pronounced on the skin with age. Other potential causes include sun exposure, aging, genetics, or smoking tobacco.
